Bands & Jazz 2015

Shasta College offers a variety of ensemble opportunities for the community.  For instrumental jazz music we offer choices for most skill levels and ages.  If you are an intermediate level student who wants to be part of an ensemble, the Shasta College Jazz Ensemble would be a great choice (no auditions required).  If you are an intermediate to advanced musician interested in both standard and contemporary band literature, the Shasta College Symphonic Band would be an excellent choice (no auditions required).  For those of you who want to gain experience in the study and performance of big-band style jazz arrangements and an advanced level musician, the best choice for you might be the Shasta College Jazz Big Band (auditions required).  Whether you decide to join one of our jazz ensembles, symphonic band, or just attend one of our concerts, we are confident that you will enjoy the experience.   For more information on our various Shasta College jazz ensembles, or the director, Dr. Larry Grandy, please visit one of the following links:

 Shasta College Jazz Big Band:

This ensemble is a traditional large jazz big band with over 20 musicians comprised of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and rhythm section.  Their concerts include jazz big band swing music of jazz notables such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Glenn Miller but also includes contemporary and brand new jazz big band compositions.  The concerts are designed for the entire family to enjoy.

Shasta College Symphonic Band:

The Shasta College Band is one of the largest community college wind bands in California.  Approximately 120 brass, woodwind, and percussion musicians combine to form a very large symphonic ensemble.  This band performs a wide variety of music including marches, Hollywood movie soundtracks, musicals, traditional band compositions, and international favorites.  The band's concerts are designed for the entire family to enjoy!
