Bands & Jazz

Shasta College offers a variety of ensemble opportunities for the community.  For instrumental jazz music we offer choices for most skill levels and ages.  If you are an intermediate level student who wants to be part of an ensemble, the Shasta College Jazz Ensemble would be a great choice (no auditions required).  If you are an intermediate to advanced musician interested in both standard and contemporary band literature, the Shasta College Symphonic Band would be an excellent choice (no auditions required).  For those of you who want to gain experience in the study and performance of big-band style jazz arrangements and an advanced level musician, the best choice for you might be the Shasta College Jazz Big Band (auditions required).  Whether you decide to join one of our jazz ensembles, symphonic band, or just attend one of our concerts, we are confident that you will enjoy the experience.

The 100+ member Symphonic Band meets Thursdays from 7:00-8:30pm, at Shasta College, room 633. There will be an informational meeting on Thursday August 18th, 2016 at 7pm for all interested players; even returning players should plan to attend! The first rehearsal will be the following week, Thursday August 25th. There is no audition required for this group; however, space is limited, especially in flute, saxophone, and trumpet sections.

A new Wind Ensemble will meet Thursdays from 8:40-9:45pm in the same location! I am excited to see what develops with this smaller ensemble, and how we can explore new repertoire and performance opportunities together.

THANKS
Dr. Corbin
