FAQs – Phlebotomy Technician

Admission/Enrollment Process

Q: Are there any pre-requisites for this program?

No, but if you would like to take a class to better prepare you for a career in healthcare, we recommend you take the HEOC 110 (Medical Terminology) course. This course is offered online and in-person.

Q: What if I have never taken a class at Shasta College?

Contact our Admissions and Records Office to start the college application process.

Q: Is there a wait list for this program?

No; however, if you would like to be added to our interest list for this program, please complete the Allied Health Programs Interest List form and we will notify you via e-mail when additional program information becomes available. Please note, this is NOT a wait list for the program, only a list for individuals interested in career training as a Phelbotomy Technician through Shasta College and who would like additional information as it becomes available. This list will in NO way determine your position in this program, nor will it give you priority registration.

Q: What options for certification are there if I already have experience drawing blood or am currently employed in a position where I draw blood?

In some cases there are options to get certified through a different process rather than taking the Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program. Our Allied Health Programs Director can help you through this process and can be contacted by phone at (530) 339-3665 or by email at
