GETTING STARTED IN THE HIM PROGRAM

1. Registering for Classes

All students need to apply and be accepted to Shasta College to receive a Student ID number in order to enroll in classes. Students must be accepted into the baccalaureate degree program in order to enroll in upper-division HIM program courses.

2. Education Plan

Students need to consult with an academic counselor for assessment and to develop an Educational Plan.  This is mandatory for all students. Transcripts need to be sent to the college Admissions & Records Office so that courses taken elsewhere will count officially toward a degree on the Shasta College transcript.

3. Course Prerequisites

There are three ways a student can satisfy a prerequisite at Shasta College:

(a) Students may satisfy a course prerequisite by receiving a grade of C or higher in the prerequisite course at Shasta College.

(b) Students who believe they have satisfied a course prerequisite through an equivalent course at another college should contact Admissions and Records who will direct them through the course equivalency procedure.  It is the student’s responsibility to provide supporting documentation, such as transcripts and course descriptions from previous colleges.

(c) Students who believe they have satisfied a prerequisite through skills gained though work experience that are equivalent to those that they would get by taking the prerequisite course at Shasta College should take supporting documentation to the Health Sciences Counselor who will direct them through the “multiple measures” procedure.
