Welcome to the Health Sciences Division
For over 60 years, Shasta College has
provided healthcare programs to Shasta County and the surrounding North State communities. Over the years, our faculty and staff have diligently worked to build a positive
rapport with local hospitals, health care agencies and dental facilities. Our programs include:
The Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN)
program; established in 1965 is a 2-year associate in science degree program preparing graduates to take the NCLEX-RN exam for California state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Vocational Nursing (VN) program; established in
1953 is a three-semester certificate program preparing graduates to take the NCLEX-PN exam for California state licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide (NA/HHA) program; established in 1964 is a one-semester course that prepares the student to be certified by State of California as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) upon successful completion of the NANAP exam.
Dental Hygiene Program - Established in 2000 is a 2-year associate in science degree program prepaing graduates to take the state and regional exams for licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)
Health Information Technology program; established in 2016 is a 2-year associate of science degree program preparing the graduate to take the national certification (AHIMA) exam and earning certification as a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)
Health Information Management program; established in 2016 is a 2-year baccalaureate of science degree program preparing the graduate to take the national certification (AHIMA) exam and earning certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
Medical Assisting program; established in Spring of 2017 is a 2-semester certification program with and additional 180 hours of externship completed in a third semester. Graduates are prepared to successfully complete one of three national/state exams to earn certification as a Medical Assistant (MA).
Since 2007, Health Sciences courses have been offered in the Shasta College Downtown location at the north end of the Downtown Redding Promenade near the intersection of Market and Tehama Streets.
