Health Sciences Division
Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to the Shasta College Division of Health Sciences website. Prospective students will find information providing a snapshot of certificate and degree offerings in nursing and dental hygiene programs. This is a unique time for our prospective students who wish to enter a nursing and health care professions career. Current health care professional shortages and the struggling financial challenges of the state, nation, and global economies challenge us all to remain healthy and ensure a healthy community.

The Associate Degree Nursing, Vocational Nursing, and Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide programs are current with California State Board approvals and graduates are eligible to take state certification and licensure examinations to practice at their respective levels in the State of California. The Dental Hygiene program is fully accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.

As Dean of the Shasta College Division of Health Sciences Division, I am committed to lead this school for health professionals to excel in all aspects of the academic enterprise – education and practice.  We continue to offer the most innovative approaches to nursing and dental hygiene education, including clinical simulation with interactive high fidelity mannequins, online education, and paperless and electronic documentation of patient care. All programs have state of the art simulation lab settings for learning and practicing skills prior to actual clinical experiences in local health care facilities. The Dental Hygiene program also operates its own clinic for dental hygiene services for community members at low cost.

I feel very fortunate to lead this division with its cadre of extraordinarily talented faculty and staff.  Hopefully, you will consider joining us at the beautiful downtown campus Health Science and University Center.
