Subject: [STUDENTS] Shasta College: COVID-19 Course Updates

Good morning students,

Courses will resume this coming Monday, March 30, in their new all-online format. Please look to your email for communication from your instructors about any specifics related to your classes. There are a few lab classes that still require in-person interaction. We’ve divided those courses into the following categories (a list of these courses may be found on our website at www.shastacollege.edu/LabCourseStatus).
  1. A limited number of classes for the Fire Academy, Emergency Medical Technician, and Nursing programs will resume in-person instruction March 30.
  2. Other classes that require a face-to-face lab will resume online instruction March 30 while their labs will have a start date on or after April 13. Please note that some of these classes may have to postpone labs until summer. Those decisions are still being worked out on a case-by-case basis and will be communicated directly to those students taking those courses.
  3. Finally, there is a small category of suspended courses. These include a lot of worksite learning courses where the situation with the worksite/employer may be up in the air.
Except for the lab classes noted above our campuses remain in modified-closure to students and the public. Those students requiring supplies from the art department to complete assignments will be contacted by their instructors.

If you are receiving federal financial aid (grants, loans), please know that the current CARES legislation provides some leniency about repayment of funds and satisfactory academic progress, but it is NOT passed yet. Please do NOT drop classes until that legislation is passed and signed by the President. We will be sharing more details with your instructors about Excused Withdrawals and Incompletes grading options, and will be posting more information on our Financial Aid website.

This situation continues to be fluid and ever evolving. As new information becomes available look for updates on our website www.shastacollege.edu/covid19 and on our social media pages. Public safety during this pandemic is our highest priority. We understand the disruption that this situation has caused for everyone and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

The Campus Safety Department is taking the lead on answering questions not addressed on our website (www.shastacollege.edu/covid19). Please contact Campus Safety at (530) 242-7910.

We hope that you found time during Spring Break to reconnect with family and friends in socially safe ways and we look forward to “seeing” everyone online starting March 30.
