Please Note:

The Student Health and Wellness Team encourages all members of the Shasta College community to take the necessary safety precautions to protect their health.

Here are everyday actions recommended by county, state, and federal health agencies to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick, a good arm’s length is minimum.
  • Use “respiratory etiquette”. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Seek immediate medical care if you have symptoms of infection, e.g., high fever or difficulty breathing.
  • Call your health care provider if you have concerns or questions.

Reminder:

What steps should I take if my roommate is ill with the flu (or a flu-like illness)?

1. Limit time in your room / contact with ill roommate and try to maintain a distance of 6 feet.
2. If close contact cannot be avoided, the ill roommate should wear a surgical mask, if tolerable, when he or she is around you and others. The non-ill roommate should also wear a mask, if tolerable, to increase their protection when in the room.
3. Wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer after leaving a room with flu illness; clean commonly-touched room surfaces with germicidal wipes or sprays, available at most grocery stores.
