Step 1: Apply for Admission to Shasta College 

Apply for Admission to Shasta College and obtain access to your MyShasta Portal.

 Step 2: Submit the BOG Fee Waiver

Submit your BOG (Board of Governors) Fee Waiver application online. If you have trouble logging into the OpenCCC the help line is: (877) 247-4836 or email support@opencc.net. You can also visit our Student Success Center in Building 100 for hands on assistance. View their website for office hours at: Student Success Center.

Step 3: Complete your FAFSA Application

The FAFSA requires an annual submission every year. The 2017-18 FAFSA opened October 1st 2016 and covers Fall-17, Spring-18, and Summer-18 semesters. The 2018-19 FAFSA opens October 1st and will cover Fall-18, Spring-19 and Summer-19. Use the following worksheets to help collect required information for the FAFSA prior to submitting:

Step 4: Receive an Email Notification

  • Once the Shasta College Financial Aid Office has received your FAFSA an email notification will be sent to you that includes instructions on submitting required forms/packets for processing.
  • It is possible that no  additional documentation is required to finish processing your financial aid file. If this is the case, no forms will be listed as "Needed" in your MyShasta account.
  • If forms are needed, you will also have access to a list of your required forms/packet via the MyForms screen in your My Shasta Account. All financial aid forms and instructions on how to submit them can be found here.  
  • Regularly check your email and MyShasta account for updated information regarding the status of your Financial Aid. Submit any additionally required paperwork in a timely manner. View the current processing timeframe here.

Step 5: Eligibility 

  • Once your processing is complete, you will be notified by email to inform you of your current eligibility for  Financial Aid. If you are notified that you are eligible, log onto your MyShasta Account to view your Financial Aid Award Letter.
  • Check the disbursement schedule for information on when to expect your  disbursements throughout the semester.
  • If you were determined to be ineligible, information on why you are ineligible will be posted to the "My Forms" screen of your MyShasta Account.

 

 Important Notes/Reminders:

  • All students receiving financial aid, excluding the BOG Fee Waiver, must have their High School Diploma or it's equivalent.
  • It is the students responsibility to stay informed of notifications sent out via email and posted on our website.
  • It is also the students responsibility to maintain and be aware of their Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standing.
  • It is the students responsibility to read and understand the Return to Title IV Consumer information website at: www.shastacollege.edu/fa_r2t4
  • If at any point it is determined that the student is ineligible for Financial Aid any awards will be cancelled. If a disbursement has already been processed, it is the students responsibility to repay any funds received.
  • It is also the students responsibility to notify the college if the student is attending another college and financial aid awarded at Shasta College needs to be cancelled.
  • It is the students responsibility to fill out all forms and applications accurately. If at any point there is conflicting information, it is the schools authority to request additional documents to verify the information in question. If at any point a students eligibility changes due to inaccurate information submitted, the student will be responsible to repay any funds received based on the eligibility change
