Am I eligible for a Direct Federal Loan?

 
To be eligible for a Direct Federal Loan you must meet the following criteria:  
  • Submit the FAFSA to Shasta College.  
  • Have a processed Financial Aid file. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen as determined by the FAFSA application. 
  • Cannot be in default on your Federal Loans or owe an overpayment of Pell Grant. Visit www.nslds.ed.gov to review your financial aid record.
  • Must be enrollment in at least half-time (6+ units) in academic Title IV approved courses. 
  • Must be in an eligible degree or certificate program
  • Be in compliance with Shasta College’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements Visit www.shastacollege.edu/fa_sap  for more information on SAP.
  • Must complete and submit all required forms listed at www.shastacollege.edu/fa_loans 
  • Subsequent loans must meet the criteria established for grade progression 
As a Community College administering Federal Direct Loans, we are required to:
  • Evaluate a student’s eligibility based on fall and spring enrollment. 
  • Students, who are completing their program of study at the end of the fall term, will have their loan prorated. 
  • The Limit borrowing of Subsidized Loans to 150% of your program and apply new loan regulations to first-time borrowers. 
  • Limit LVN pre-requisite coursework funding to 12 months and $2,625.00 in subsidized loans.​
