We start accepting applications as follows:

ummer: 8:00 am on the First working day of June -Applications CLOSED
                           Fall: 8:00 am on the First working day of August - Applications CLOSED
                             Spring: 8:00 am on the First working day January - Applications CLOSED

We accept applications for book loans all semester. However, to be considered for a book grant submit your application as close to the first application submission date as possible.​

 

Students that are NOT eligible to apply are:

  • Students receiving a PELL Grant payment the 1st disbursement date of the semester
    Note: Students living in the Dorms or Out-of-State students who are on a payment plan may still be eligible to apply.​
  • In "Default" status on a Federal Student Loan
  • Owe a grant overpayment
  • Enrolled in less than 6 units
    Note: Late start classes are not considered enrolled units until they start
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) Below 2.0
  • Currently attending High School and/or College Connection
  • Have an outstanding Short-Term Loan
  • Have an "unsatisfactory repayment" status on a previous Short-Term Loan

NOTE: EOPS and TRiO students you may be eligible for a Book Grant or Loan.

Financial Aid Book Grant/Loan programs:

 
Shasta College Short-Term Book Loan
    • Apply each semester
    • 45 day short-term loan
    • Must be repaid to Shasta College
    • Covers textbooks through the Shasta College Bookstore
    • Maximum Book Loan: $350.00
Follett Book Grant 
    • One-time grant 
    • Does not need to be repaid
    • Covers textbooks through the Shasta College Bookstore
    • Maximum Follett Book Grant: $300.00 
​          Student Sucess Book Grant
    • One grant per semester
    • Does not need to be repaid
    • Covers required course textbooks through the Shasta College Bookstore
    • Maximum Student Success Book grant: $300.00                ​​​
Teresa B. Poore Book Grant 
    • One grant per academic year
    • Does not need to be repaid
    • Covers Books and Supplies through the Shasta College Bookstore
    • Maximum Book Grant: $400.00

Repayment Information:

  • Book Grants do not need to be repaid
  • Book Loans are to be repaid within 45 days and a charge will be posted to your student account upon approval of the book loan.​
  • Payments can be made by cash, check or debit/credit card
  • A late fee of $10.00 may be assessed​
  • Unpaid Loans will be sent to collections. All collection fees will be the responsibility of the student.

Applying for a Book Loan/Grant:
When you apply; if a Book Loan is processed a charge will be placed on your student account immediately.

Processing Timeframes:

Normal Processing: Allow 4 to 5 business day

During Peak Application Periods: Allow 7 to 10 business days

 
Processing & Pick-up Information:
 
    1. Funds are awarded on a first-come/first-serve basis If a Book Loan is processed on your behalf, a charge will be placed on your student account. You will be responsible for this debt. Remember, this is a short-term loan and is due 45-days from the receipt. A late fee of $10.00 may also be assessed to your account.
    2. Once your application has been processed, an email will be sent to you. If your application is not approved the reason for denial will be posted to "My Financial Aid" through "My Shasta".
    3. If your request is approved, you must present photo ID to the Financial Aid Office​ at the Redding campus and sign a promissory note.
    4. In order to access grant or loan funds, the promissory note is to be taken to the Shasta College Bookstore. A giftcard for the approved funds will be loaded and provided to you by the bookstore.

The SCSS Lending Library is a FREE program and is open to most Shasta College students. Contact Student Senate for more information on this program.
