
2009 Lady Knights Soccer Team
Lady Knights vs. Lassen Cougars
November 6th
The Lady Knights faced off against the Lassen Cougars in Susanville. Lori Garcia started off the scoring for Shasta College off an assist from Hanna Emmen. Hannah Brown then had an unassisted goal, followed by a goal from Jessie Bailey, assisted by Vanya Hernandez. Jessie then passed it to Hannah Brown who put in her second goal and then quickly scored her third off an assist by Vanya Hernandez. Tori Hughes played goal for Shasta during the first half and had 3 saves for the game.
Hanna Brown's fourth and final goal of the game was the first goal of the second half. Tori Hughes took a beautiful shot from the outside for the seventh goal of the game. Tori then assisted Erin Graham for the 8th and final goal of the game. The final score was 8-0. Kristina Mendenhall played in goal for Shasta the second half and had 2 saves.
Our final game is on Tuesday, Nov. 10th at 3:00 at home Shasta’s record is currently 7 wins, 10 losses.
Lady Knights vs. Butte College
November 3rd
Shasta played at Butte College and lost 3-0. Our defense, especially sweeper Breah Porter, worked very hard to contain a strong Butte offense and the score was 1-0 at half. Unfortunately, Butte was able to put in 2 more in the second half. Despite fighting hard to win the ball in the midfield, we were unable to finish with a goal. Goalie, Hanna Emmen, had an excellent game with 18 saves.
Lady Knights vs. Feather River
October 29th and October 30th
Shasta played at Feather River on the 29th and again on the 30th at home. The first game was 1 - 5 at half, with Hannah Brown scoring the lone Shasta goal off an assist from Roni Stouffer. Despite fighting all the way to the end, the talented Feather River team was able to get 3 more goals and Shasta could not find the net. The score ended 1-8. Hanna Emmen had 20 saves for shasta.
The next day at home, it looked like it was going to be a different game. Shasta came out strong and came up with the first goal of the game scored by Megan Zertuche off of a pass from Megan Colburn. Unfortunately, Feather River was just too strong, with too deep of a bench to sustain the lead for long. The final score was 1-10.
Lady Knights vs. Redwoods
October 23rd
Shasta beat the College of the Redwoods Friday, 2-0. The first half was held scoreless as the Lady Knights took a lot of shots, but was unable to put the ball into the net. Fortunately, their defense really came alive and stopped Redwoods attempts to run the ball past the half-line. Key defensive players were sweeper Breah Porter, and outside backs Kristina Mendenhall and Megan Zertuche. In addition, Katherine Hunting and Hannah Brown should be given credit for controlling the tempo of the game by successfully dominating the midfield area. The second half allowed Shasta’s offense two goals. The first was a great shot by Roni Stouffer off an assist by Aubri Kemp. The second occurred in the final 5 minutes of the game, Jessica Bailey secured our win with a penalty shot that sailed over the defensive wall, over the goalies head, and into the back of the net. Really stepping up to help out the defense protect our lead in the second half were outside midfielders Tori Hughes and Lori Garcia. Goalie, Hanna Emmen, had another outstanding game with nine saves.
Lady Knights vs. Lassen
October 20th
Today’s women's soccer match for the Shasta Lady Knights against Lassen ended in with the score 9-0. An eventful first half ended at 4-0 with Shasta in the lead. Jessica Bailey scored the first goal off an assist from Kathryn Hunting. Tori Hughes then dribbled one down the right side and scored unassisted. Jessica Bailey then assisted Megan Colburn for the teams 3rd goal. Hannah Brown scored the 4th and final goal of the half off an assist from Ally Anderson.
The second half allowed for some work on the teams crossing and was able to put some in by volleying the ball into the net. One such goal was scored by Hanna Emmen off of a cross by Kathryn Hunting. Roni Stouffer was also able to one-touch in a goal off of a pass from Megan Zertuche. Breah Porter assisted Vanya Hernandez's goal and Ally Anderson and Kristina Mendenhall each had second half goals.
Lady Knights vs. Butte
October 17th
Given that the first time Shasta College played Butte the score ended in a 0-2 loss without them scoring in the second half, the Lady Knights were looking forward to playing them on their home field. Unfortunately, two of Shasta’s starting players were out sick and seven players who participated in the game on the field had some form of the flu. Despite this, the girls gave it their all and fought very hard. The first half Butte scored three goals. Then second half they were only allowed one more. Goalie, Hanna Emmen, had 18 saves for the game.
Lady Knights vs. Lassen
The Shasta College women’s soccer team beat Lassen College 8-0 on October 3rd. Hannah Brown had 3 goals for the game with one in the first half and two coming in the second half. Her first and third goals were assisted by Erin Graham, who also assisted Jessie Bailey's first-half goal. Megan Zertuche also scored a goal in the first half off a pass from Kathryn Hunting. At half-time the score was 3-0. Other goals in the second half were from Ally Anderson with an assist by Vanya Hernandez, Breah Porter assisted by Jessie Laux, and Aubri Kemp assisted by Hanna Emmen. Hanna was relieved of goal duties in the 65th minute of the game by Tori Hughes. The defense did such a great job that the goalies didn't see much action on the day. Hanna had 4 saves and Tori had 2 in the Lady Knights shutout.
Lady Knights vs. Redwoods
On October 6th, the Lady Knights lost 4-3 against the College of the Redwoods at home. Kathryn Hunting led the team in a very close effort, scoring a goal in each half. Megan Colburn assisted Erin Graham's second-half goal, as well as Kathryn's second goal of the game.
The first half ended with Redwoods ahead 2-1. As has continued throughout the season, the girls more than tripled their shots in the second half of the game, but were unable to outscore Redwoods. The Knights were hit with three injuries during the game to make things more difficult. Jessie Bailey did a great job covering for injured sweeper, Breah Porter. In addition, Roni Stouffer and Megan Zerturche stepped up and took long outside shots to create plays, and Hannah Brown did a great job distributing the ball in the middle. Goalie Hanna Emmen had 9 saves for the day.
Lady Knights vs. Butte
September 30th
Shasta lost against Butte College today 2-0. In the first half Butte was able to put two in, but Shasta played very well defensively throughout the second half and were able to hold them to no goals. Key defenders in the game were Breah Porter at sweeper and Kristina Mendenhall and Aubri Kemp on the outside backs. Unfortunately Shasta was not able to get much going offensively in order to even up the score. Goalie, Hannah Emmen, had 15 saves in the game.
Lady Knights vs. Feather River
On Friday September 25th, the Shasta College Lady Knights faced off against the Feather River Lady Golden Eagles: Feather River came out strong and outpaced Shasta in the first half to score 5 goals. Shasta regrouped before the second half and that resulted in more than triple their shots on goal from the first half of the game. Overall, there was a great effort during the second half by sweeper Breah Porter and the rest of the Knights definitely improved over their first half of play. Unfortunately for the Knights though, nothing found the net and Feather River was able to produce three more goals. The final score of this game was Feather River 8, Shasta College 0.
Contra Costa Rematch
On Tuesday, September 22nd, Shasta traveled to Contra Costa for a rematch of their previous game that Shasta won at home 5 - 2. This match turned out to be very similar to the last meeting with the final score of 5 - 3 again in Shasta’s favor.
The first goal of the game for Shasta was scored by Heather Lankford off of an assist by Aubri Kemp. Goalie, Hanna Emmen sent one down the field to Hannah Brown who put it in for the 2nd goal. Megan Colburn assisted Jessie Bailey for our 3rd goal of the game and a 3-1 lead at half-time.
After halftime the Lady Knights had a bit of a lapse in their intensity and allowed Contra Costa to score 2 goals to tie the game at 3-3. After some adjustments, Hannah Brown was able to score her second goal with an assist by Jessie Bailey. The final goal of the game was made by Roni Stouffer with the help of Tori Hughes. This win brings the Lady Knights to 3 – 3 on the season.
Goalie Hannah Emmen had 8 saves for the day. Roni Stouffer, Katherine Hunting and Jessie Bailey all contributed with both excellent offense and defense in the match.
Lady Knights take on the Contra Costa Comets
On Tuesday, September 15th the Lady Knights faced off against the Contra Costa Comets at Shasta College. The score was tied 2 – 2 at halftime after a tough fought first half. The Lady Knights really turned it on in the second half to outscore the Comets 5 – 2. Jessie Bailey kicked in two goals and notched an assist with Hannah Brown adding a goal and two assists for the Knights top point scorers. Also contributing on the scoreboard was Ally Anderson and Erin Graham with one goal each. Another great game from Goalie Hanna Emmen in sealing the win with 9 saves. Everyone played and had a hand in this win. Defensive line Kristina Mendenhall, Aubri Kemp and Megan Zertuche held the Comets to very few shots. Roni Stouffer was instrumental in winning 50/50's and controlling the middle, along with Katherine Hunting. Tori Hughes, Jessie Bailey, Megan Colburn and Heather Lankford helped the team immensely with their ability to play multiple positions.
Tournament at Mendocino College
The Lady Knights competed in a two game tournament at Mendocino College over the weekend. Their first game was against Mendocino College on Saturday, September 12th. The final result of 0-3, belies the realities of the game. The Knights played very well, especially in the first half where only one goal was allowed. Mendocino did not dominate during the contest but was able to score on a few lapses by the Knights. Hanna Emmen kept goal for the game and had a total of 12 saves. Heather Lankford and Ally Anderson shook things up for the offense in the second half and Erin Graham, Katherine Hunting and Tori Hughes had an outstanding game all around.
The second game of the tournament was against Los Medanos College. The ladies came out strong and outside Midfielder Breah Porter scored a beautiful goal off an assist from Hannah Brown. The game was tied at the half, so the girls knew they needed to come out and score. They came out very strong after half and more than tripled the number of shots on goal. Included in this barrage were three amazing headers from Roni Stouffer. Unfortunately, nothing found the back of the net. Los Medanos was able to sneak in a score from a header off of a corner kick with one minute left to go in the game. A heartbreaking loss, but a very competitive match. Aubri Kemp and Megan Zertuche had outstanding games at outside defense. Goalie, Hanna Emmen, had 19 saves, including a diving penalty-kick save.
The Lady Knights suffered their first loss of the season in falling to the Lady Panthers 4-0. The Knights held close until the end of the first half trailing 0-1 with Hanna Emmen in goal. She had nine saves including some amazing one on one dives. The second half proved to be the difference in the game as Sac City had an entire team worth of substitutions to keep fresh legs on the field. Sacramento out-passed Shasta and they were able to get three more goals despite some great plays by goalie Ally Anderson who also had 9 saves. Critical players that helped Shasta fight off more goals were Roni Stouffer, Katherine Hunting and Megan Colburn. The Lady Knights are looking at it as a learning experience and making some adjustments in their formation. Shasta’s next games are in Ukiah on the 12th and 13th of September.
Shasta College vs San Francisco City College 8/28/09
The Lady Knights opened up against the Lady Rams of San Francisco and won 5-3. The stars of the game for Shasta were Hannah Brown who scored three goals for the hat trick, Megan Colburn scored a goal and added another two assists, and Jessie Bailey had a goal and an assist in the win. Kristina Mendenhall did an exceptional job at sweeper and Katherine Hunting controlled the game well at the midfield. Goal Keepers Hanna Emmen and Ally Anderson had 6 saves each. This was a true team effort as all members contributed to the win.
