Gary comes to Shasta College after a successful twenty seven year career as an educator and coach. Coach Houser attended Oregon State University where he received his Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees. While at OSU Gary was a 1st Team All-PAC 8 tight end and was second in the nation in punting his senior year. During his senior season Gary was a member of the "Giant Killers." His OSU team beat the #2 ranked Purdue Boilermakers, tied the #2 ranked UCLA Bruins, and completed the year by beating the #1 ranked USC Trojans. The defeat of the Trojans ended a 26 game winning streak and two plus years as them being ranked the #1 ranked team in the nation. Gary is also a member of the OSU Athletic Hall of Fame, the State of Oregon Hall of Fame, and was voted to the First Team All-Century Football Team. Coach Houser has taught and coached at Grant High School in Sacramento, Columbia Basin Community College in Pasco, Washington, and for eighteen years at CSU-Chico. This is Gary's ninth year as Athletic Director at Shasta College. Gary and his wife, Terry, have three daughters, Eryn, Kelsey and Shelby.
