The Distressed Student Handbook
Dear Colleague,
In your day-to-day interactions with students, the great majority of the contacts made are cordial, productive and enjoyable. It is likely, however, that you will also have experiences with students whose problems, or style of approach, cause you concern and discomfort. When that occurs, we encourage you to contact Psychological Counseling Services for immediate attention for the student. If you have questions or concerns you want to discuss, you may use the services of Psychological Counseling Services or the Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT).
This guide provides straightforward advice on how to identify, assist and refer emotionally distressed and/or difficult students. We share a common desire with you to provide students with positive learning opportunities and self-development.
