Industry Driven Regional Collaborative (IDRC) – Building Green
The Economic and Workforce Development Division at Shasta College has been awarded the IDRC/Building Green Grant. This grant, through the California Community College Chancellor’s Office Economic & Workforce Development Program, will be used for a partnership with Shasta Builder’s Exchange and Valley Contractor’s Exchange to develop training in the field of green construction. This training will target job seekers and incumbent workers.

Industry Driven Regional Collaborative (IDRC) – Renewable Energy
The Economic and Workforce Development Division at Shasta College has been awarded the IDRC/Renewable Energy Grant.  This grant is for development of renewable energy training in the fields of photovoltaic/solar and wind generation.  This training will target job seekers and incumbent workers.

Job Development Initiative Fund (JDIF) – Truck/Trailer Operator
The Economic and Workforce Development Division at Shasta College has been awarded the JDIF – Industrial Truck/Trailer Operators Grant. This grant focuses on collaborating with several partners in the Far North Region. Shasta College will continue to enhance ongoing occupational training for Industrial Truck and Trailer Operators by offering intense short-term courses via the JDIF. This short-term training program will expand to include more internships, renewable fuels training, GPS, material handling, and other courses as employers deem necessary. A minimum of 350 participants will receive training, and a minimum of 70 welfare recipients and/or working poor will be hired through participating companies or within their supply chain. Overwhelming support is demonstrated from both the industry along with public agencies by providing jobs for welfare recipients and/or matching funds. Furthering Shasta College’s role as a provider of workforce development, the project provides a positive impact to the regional economic development through the advancement of replacing inadequate job skill levels with a highly skilled workforce.

Job Development Initiative Fund (JDIF) – Manufacturing Industry Grant
The Economic and Workforce Development Division at Shasta College has been awarded the Manufacturing Industry Grant. The intent of this grant is to develop industry recognized credit and non-credit certification courses/programs including entry-level and basic skills training courses that will enhance the workforce skills and adaptability to industry changes. Through customized training, instruction and related services, Shasta College will develop multiple modular program blocks of curriculum outlining essential skill-sets bridging the training and education gap of performance improvement training and services necessary for the employment industry. Shasta College will partner with One-Stops including the Smart Business Resource Center, Tehama Job Training Center, Northern Rural Training Employment Consortium (NorTEC), North Central Counties Consortium (NCCC), and the Economic Development Corporation (EDC). This regional collaborative currently works together through the WIRED grant that was awarded to NorTEC in May 2007. This project will continue that collaboration and leverage those grant funds to further both projects.

SB-70 – California Community College Chancellor’s Office Career and Technical Education (CTE) Sectors
Environmental Technologies: Shasta College funding proposal to the California Community College Chancellor’s Office Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program will be used for a collaborative involving the local middle schools, high schools, ROPs, and business. This proposal will incorporate Environmental Technologies into 7th and 8th grade exploration, CTE education, teacher/faculty externships, and faculty professional development. This brings in several disciplines, Natural Resources, Renewable Energy, Chemistry, Agriculture, etc. The Chancellor’s Office intends to continue funding this program for five years and beyond. We have designed this program to grow over time. Our faculty will receive industry training and professional development to develop/retain cutting edge knowledge they can pass to students in high school, at Shasta College and beyond.

Youth Entrepreneur 
The SBDC at Shasta College has been awarded the CTE Pathways/Workforce Development Funds (SB70 entrepreneurship) as part of an augmentation to the SBDC State EWD grant awarded the District in 2006 ($50,000). The additional $60,000 is earmarked to be applied to providing specialized services to our region to assist youth in exploring and establishing their own businesses.

CalTrans Small Business Training 
The SBDC at Shasta College has been awarded a CalTrans Small Business Training grant as part of an augmentation to the SBDC State EWD grant awarded the District in 2006 ($50,000). The additional $50,000 is earmarked to be applied to providing specialized services to the service region to assist businesses (DBE’s) in their ability to provide services to CalTrans.

California Community College Chancellor’s Office Career and Technical Education (CTE) – Collaborative
Shasta College was awarded a California Community College System Office Career and Technical Education (CTE) Community Collaborative grant. These funds will be used for a collaborative involving the local middle schools, high schools, ROPs, and business/industry. This proposal will incorporate Environmental Technologies into 7th and 8th grade exploration, CTE education, teacher/faculty externships, and faculty professional development. This funding is part of the SB70 set aside funds from the Chancellor’s Office.

Shasta College was awarded a California Community College System Office Career and Technical Education (CTE) Community Collaborative grant. These funds will be used for a collaborative involving the local middle schools, high schools, ROPs, and business/industry. This proposal will focus on building 2+2 (secondary to post-secondary) educational pathways working with partner high schools and ROP for Photovoltaic and Wind Power unit based certificates. This funding is part of the SB70 set aside funds from the Chancellor’s Office.

Shasta College was awarded a California Community College System Office Career and Technical Education (CTE) Community Collaborative grant. These funds will be used for a collaborative involving the local middle schools, high schools, and ROPs. This proposal will incorporate elements of sustainability into all facets of CTE curriculum. This funding is part of the SB70 set aside funds from the Chancellor’s Office.
