Magazine and Newspaper Articles
Access to over 4 million magazine and newspaper articles is available via the Library's Articles & Databases link. Most of the searchable online databases contain full-text articles and cover a myriad of subjects. When you locate an article, options are provided to print or email (and in some cases, download) that article.  Online access is available anytime to registered students. Give us a call at (530) 242-7551 if you need help. After hours? Try Ask a Librarian. This service is monitored around the clock for fast response.

Books
More than 70,000 books (and other materials) are housed in our collection. Come in and search the Library's collections via the Library Catalog or browse the stacks, find a book, and relax in one of our comfy chairs.

Best Sellers
Featuring a revolving collection of popular fiction and non-fiction books for checkout.

Online eBooks
Over 24,000 electronic books are available 24/7 through the Library's web page. Go to Online eBooks to get started. Need help? Call (530) 242-7551.

Videos/DVD's
More than 4,800 videos and DVD's are housed in our collection, searchable online via the Library Catalog. Faculty may reserve titles in advance by booking the video/DVD with Circulation Staff.  Pick up a booking form or call 242-7550 to book the title of your choice. NOTE: Registered Shasta College students may now select a title to view in the Library on one of our videotape/DVD players or check it out for two days.

Internet Resources
Although the Internet contains much good information, numerous web sites are unreliable. Fortunately, many excellent guides and resources are designed to help your students critically evaluate Web pages as well as become "Net-Saavy." The Library's Research Help page is a good place to start.

Take advantage of these terrific services offered by the Library:

Virtual Access
Most Library resources are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week via the Shasta College Library Web site.

Reference Desk Assistance
Reference Staff is always available to assist you or your students with research and other questions during open Library hours.

    • Need immediate help? During business hours, give us a call at (530) 242-7551, or start a conversation with iChat LIVE from our home page.
    • Need assistance when the Library is not open? Select Ask a Librarian from our home page and choose the email option. You should receive a response by the next business day.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
ILL is a service provided for you and your students to acquire materials not owned by the Shasta College Library. Typically, there is no cost for this service, however it may take up to three weeks to receive requested items. Get started by completing an ILL Request.

Library Instruction
We offer Library Orientations for your classes throughout the semester.

  • Standard Orientation – Demonstration of the Library Catalog and at least two online full-text databases.
  • Information Competency Instruction – An exciting option for the student and instructor. In addition to a search demo, a course specific, hands-on activity is offered within the time allotted. The student takes away a strategy for navigating both print and online resources. Check out our Web link on Library Instruction above to find out more.

To book an Orientation, fill out a Library Instruction Request Form (available at your center office or from the Library) or call 242-2342.  You may also email us at:  Library_Orientations@shastacollege.edu to request an Orientation.

Library Staff
There are currently 14 Library staff members who can assist you with research and other information needs.
