Q - How do I find my classes?

Q - What degrees and certificates does Shasta College offer?

Q - Where can I buy a parking permit and park legally?
A -
Parking Permits can be purchased at the Business Office window (Administration Building, Room 105). Valid parking permits are required on all vehicles parked on campus. Permit hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and on Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The only exception is that a student parking permit is not required for parking in any of the student lots on Saturday or Sunday. Students with a parking permit may park in any of the student-designated parking areas in the North, South, East and Pool parking lots. There are also some designated spaces for students in the parking lot just north of the Administration Building.  The cost is $25.00 per semester.  If you qualify for a BOGG Fee Waiver the cost is $20.00 per semester.  Daily parking permit dispensers are also available in each of the parking lots at a cost of $1.00 per day.  Students may not park in staff parking lots or designated disabled parking spaces at any time.

Q - Can I purchase a student meal card?

Yes! The ShastaPlus program is available to everyone starting as low as $25. It can be used to purchase food at any food service register. To answer any of your questions or help with any special needs, please call 225-4733.            

Q - What about meals for dormitory students?

- The $hastaPlu$ meal program is available to dormitory students as well.  Call 225-4733 for details.

Q - What are the Food Service hours?
A
- Food services are available Monday -Thursday from 7:30 to 6:30 PM and on Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Vending machines are also located throughout campus.

Q - Where can I purchase a student ID card?
A
- The Associated Student Body offers an ASB Student ID Card.  This card is plastic and displays a photo of the student, as well as personal information. It may be used as a secondary form of identification, and to receive discounts on campus, in the community and on the web. The card is $5 and is valid for the entire school year. You may purchase a card at the Business Office window in the Administrations Building, Room 105.
 

Q - How can I get a library card?
A
- Go to the library (Learning Resources Center-Building 200) to request a card. They will verify your student status and you will be issued a library card right away.  The first card is free.  If you lose your card and need a replacement, there is a $2.00 fee.  The library hours are Monday-Thursday, 7:45 a.m.-8:45 p.m., Friday, 7:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m.  You can also access information about the library through the website at www.library.shastacollege.edu.

Q - How do I know which books to buy and when?
A
- Books are available beginning the first week of classes.  It is recommended that students go to class first.  Each of your instructors will tell you the books to buy and which books are recommended.  Regular bookstore hours are Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  The bookstore is also open evenings during the first two weeks of the semester.

Q - Is financial aid available?
A
- Yes, but the process can take as long as three months to complete.  The sooner you apply, the sooner you will receive your financial assistance.  Contact the Financial Aid Office in the Administration Building (Room 108), 225-4735, for information.  The office hours are Monday, 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Q - Can I drop one of my classes?
A
- Yes, you may drop a class.  Contact the Admissions & Records Office,
242-7650, for specific information, deadlines, and drop procedures.  It would be beneficial to talk to your counselor before dropping any class.

Q - How long do the classes last?
A
- All full-term classes are completed in one semester.  Some short-term classes may be completed in six to nine weeks.

Q - If I am failing a class, where do I get help?
A
- Go to a tutoring center or see your counselor right away.

Q - How long will it take to finish college?
A
- It will depend on the number of units you complete each semester. For the two-year Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree    you will need a minimum of sixty units.  In order to transfer to a four-year college (if ineligible from high school) you will need to complete a curriculum of 56 transferable units. 

Q - Where can I get help with personal problems?
A - Go to the Health & Wellness Services Center located in the Student Center Building (Room 2015), or see your counselor. Student health care services are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Q - When can the facilities of the Physical Education Department be used?  And by whom?
A
          1. Pool:  The pool is for students only.  There are times that the pool is open for student use, but we will not know the hours until approximately two weeks after school begins.

2. Gymnasium:  The gym is available only through classes, or by obtaining a Use of Facilities for groups through the Vice President of Administrative Services.

3. Tennis Courts:  The courts are open to both students and the public when not in use by a class.
