General Assembly

Student Senate General Assembly Spring 2010 is scheduled for April 30 - May 2, 2010 at the Western Bonaventure in Los Angeles, CA

This year the need for student advocacy has become even more vital. Students across the state have been feeling the pain of devastating budget cuts in the form of severely impacted programs, course reductions and cancellations, exorbitant waitlists, and significantly reduced services; all at a time when enrollment has reached an unprecedented 2.9 million students. Particularly hard hit are our most vulnerable students, who either already have been or will be lost as a result of the devastation caused by the 30% fee increase. Projected losses of more than 250,000 students are expected just as unemployment has hit a record high of 12.2% in the state. California community colleges, with their unique ability to quickly produce more employable and educated workers, continue to play a vital role in this state’s chances for recovery despite the fact that the economy continues to decline. In the midst of this dire forecast, your Student Senate has been working hard to represent you in Sacramento. Students from across the state have come together in greater and greater numbers to fight shoulder-to-shoulder to save higher education. However, we still need your help, as unity is our greatest strength.
