 Community Teaching Garden

Our Vision

This pioneer teaching program intends to serve the regional community as an exemplar of organic, regenerative and sustainable living, providing education toward improved understanding, both in theory and in practice, of the interrelatedness of all life— which by necessity will form the foundation for a truly sustainable future.

 Mission Statement

Our mission is to encourage self-reliance, sustainable practices, regional food security, and ecological literacy* by providing information, instruction, and practical experience in sustainable organic food gardening.

It is also our purpose to encourage sustainable farming, neighborhood gardening cooperatives and school gardening projects, as well as provide a venue for horticultural therapy and spiritual enrichment.

*Eco-literacy is a term coined by David Orr, Professor and Chair, Environmental Studies Program, Oberlin College:

“An ecologically literate person would have at least a basic comprehension of ecology, human ecology, and the concepts of sustainability, as well as the wherewithal to solve problems” (from the Forward, Ecological Literacy).
