Umoja 2022-23
Award: $62,859.37
The Umoja program funds will allow Shasta College to continue to provide additional recruitment and support services to students participating in the Umoja program, including tutoring, mentoring, school supplies, and stoles for graduating students. Awareness and recognition events such as Black History Month and Umoja shirts will foster inclusion and aid in recruitment efforts. Rising Scholars Network Grant
Award: $160,000
Rising Scholars funding will allow us to sustain and expand our STEP-UP program, serving 25 formerly incarcerated students on campus, jail, or juvenile detention facilities as they pursue their academic and career goals.
California Apprenticeship Initiative -Accounting
Award: $500,000
Shasta College is proposing to develop new apprenticeship programs in Accounting/Financial Services to meet the local labor market need. This grant will allow us to conduct strategic outreach and recruitment to enroll under-represented, under-served groups who have been heavily impacted by the economic downturn in these programs, thus increasing completion of certificates and degrees. At least 25 apprentices will be served by this program. We will leverage existing workforce development assets such as not-for-credit workforce training, contract education, adult education programming, Strong Workforce Program, and Perkins program investments to increase program reach and sustainability.
Higher Education Student Housing Grant
Award: $255,000
hasta College has requested funding for a one year planning grant to conduct a feasibility study, environmental study, and to draft architectural plans for additional student housing.
Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) Campus Program
Award: $549,133
This grant proposal would extend funding of the Shasta CARES efforts to prevent and address domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking as well as engage Simpson University as a new partner. Funds will be used for prevention education, outreach and awareness events, coordinated community response teams and training with law enforcement and victims service providers.
USFS Hirz Campground Cleanup –Shasta County RAC
Award: $93,600
Through a collaborative partnership with the USFS Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area Management Unit, Shasta College's Heavy Equipment and Heavy Equipment Logging students will participate in a 4-week experiential based learning project at Hirz Campground on Shasta Lake. Utilizing Shasta College's fleet of equipment, students will have the opportunity to enroll in a 2-unit project-focused capstone course to gain real-world experience through a well-defined scope of work cleaning up and improving the lake view campsites to improve the recreational value, forest health and fire resiliency of this regional asset. Student engagement with USFS will also be beneficial to their future career opportunities.
California Early Childhood Mentor Program
Award: $1,795
Coordinating and offering an adult supervision course and seminars for mentors and directors; coordinating and developing mentoring programs; offering honoraria for faculty working with the college mentoring program; providing books and other instructional materials for mentors; and printing and copying mentor materials. This is funded by Chabot-Las Positas Community College District who applied and received a grant from the California State Department of Education to operate a Mentor Program.
First 5 –IEEEP Grant (Shasta Early Gardeners)
Award: $1,000
The ECE lab school is seeking funding for an adaptive outdoor sensory garden for children ages 3 to 5. The garden will be accessible to children with all abilities, and will feature specific aromatic herbs and butterfly pollinator plants to enhance sensory exploration and provide children a calming garden area that improves physical and mental health while allowing children to learn about caring for plants. Perkins 1C 2021-22
Award: $403,186
The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV) is a principal source of federal funding to states and discretionary grantees for the improvement of secondary and postsecondary career and technical education programs across the nation. The purpose of the Act is to develop more fully the academic, career, and technical skills of secondary and postsecondary students who elect to enroll in career and technical education programs.

The Burton Critical Needs and Opportunity Grant
Award: $6,000
The goal of this grant is to pay for expenses related to a student’s critical need or opportunity. Examples include: textbooks, school supplies or school fees, transportation expenses or emergency auto repairs, deposits for first and last month’s rent for a room or apartment, obtaining medical or dental care when no Medi-Cal providers are available. Funds are available to current or prospective students between the ages of 16 and 26 who have been in foster care or experienced homelessness at some point.
Shasta College Master Gardeners –Saratoga Horticulture Research Endowment (UC Davis)
Award: $16,500
This grant will fund educational and outreach activities that facilitate plant survival during periods of extended drought; encourage the transition to water-conserving plant species for ornamental and home garden use; implement lasagna composting; develop a list of low water, fire resistant plants for home landscape use in the Redding area; convert current irrigation systems and the development of gray water systems.
Golden State Opportunity
Award: $2,500
To promote the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), the Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC), and other public benefits for the 2022 year.
California Regional K-16 Education Collaboratives Grant Program
Award: $18,130,000
The Regional K-16 Collaborative grant program will leverage and expand the cradle to career efforts of North State Together across 10 north state counties, in collaboration with UC Davis, CSU's at Chico and Humboldt, College of the Siskiyous, and Shasta County Office of Education. This regional effort will focus on establishing broad regional pathways and industry partnerships in healthcare, education, and engineering/computing that build inclusive, supportive pathways that are responsive to local needs.
CaliforniaForAll College Fellowship
Award: $1,800,000
The CaliforniansForAll College Fellowship is a Governor’s initiative administered by California Volunteers in partnership with California colleges and universities with a strong commitment to civic and community engagement. The purpose of this initiative is to build the next generation of civic leaders by engaging college students from all backgrounds in meaningful community service, while providing them with a path toward reducing college debt. In this way, the CaliforniansForAll College Fellowship will help mitigate the disproportionate impacts – for both students and communities - of the COVID-19 public health emergency. The College Fellowship will advance three primary goals: Goal 1: Engage college students in meaningful service opportunities that build leadership skills and civic responsibility. Goal 2: Help students from diverse backgrounds graduate college on time and with less debt; Goal 3: Support the work of community-based organizations focused on key local priorities (e.g. K-12 Education, Food Insecurity, Climate Action).
TRIO UPWARD Bound 22-27
Award: $1,562,400
The goal of the Upward Bound Program is to support projects designed to provide participants the skills and motivation necessary to complete a program of secondary education and to enter and succeed in a program of postsecondary education. This continuation application is to request funds to continue to serve Enterprise, Central Valley and Gateway school districts. The grant budget is $312,480 per year for 5 years.
Institutional Resilience and Expanded Post-Secondary Opportunity (IREPO) 84.425P
Award: $1,276,639
The purpose of the IREPO Grants, offered under section 18004(a)(3) of the CARES Act and the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), is to provide financial support to institutions of higher education (IHEs) with the greatest unmet needs related to coronavirus to enable them to resume operations, serve the needs of students, reduce disease transmission, and develop more resilient instructional delivery models, such as distance learning, to continue educating students who cannot or choose not to attend classroom-based instruction due to coronavirus.
Supplemental Support Under the American Rescue Plan (SSARP) 84.425T
Award: $1,901,174
This round of funding from the CARES Act/American Rescue Plan (ARP) is to be allocated 50% to student direct aid and 50% to institutional costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery efforts.
