Rising Scholars Network -Juvenile Justice Program for STEP-UP
Award: $1,545,454
The Rising Scholars Network -Juvenile Justice Program is constructed around the following three broad principles:
- On-site programming in juvenile facilities and at community and alternative schools
- In-person and online instruction supported by technology access
- Comprehensive education program
- Courses for UC/CSU credit and college readiness workshops
- Multiple pathways for degrees, transfer, and/or certificate attainment
- Dual enrollment to complete HS diploma and gain college credit simultaneously
- Supported transition to college campuses upon release
- Direct transition support: high school transcripts, placement, and counseling
- Campus tours and orientations
- Comprehensive wrap-around student support services
- Dedicated counseling and financial aid support
- Basic needs resources (food, transportation, housing stipends)
- Stipends for textbooks, technology, and other college materials
- College buy-in and commitment to program success
- Dedicated college program staff: program coordinator, retention specialist, counselor, and faculty who receive specialized training
- Dedicated on-campus space: office for students to meet with program staff, space for students to meet for social/peer and academic support
- Committed community partners: local high school districts, County Offices of Education, probation departments, and community-based organizations.
Homeless and Housing Insecurity Program
Award: $624,641
Participating colleges will be encouraged to target services to students who are at greater risk of experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity including but not limited to students who have experienced foster care, students with disabilities, students with dependents and students who identify as LGBTQ+.
California Apprenticeship Initiative New and Innovative Grant -Customer Service Planning Grant
Award: $120,000
Shasta College will develop a new Customer Service per apprenticeship, which aligns with the Shasta College Customer Service Academy Certificate (noncredit & credit). This will create a sustainable pipeline to our state-registered Accounting Clerk apprenticeship program, which aligns with the Shasta College Accounting clerk certificate. This grant will allow us to conduct strategic outreach and recruitment to register our diverse student populations as pre-apprentices, thus increasing student registration into our apprenticeship program as well as the completion of Shasta College certificates and degrees. This program will be registered with the Division of Apprenticeship Standards within 7 months of the grant term.
California Apprenticeship Initiative New and Innovative Grant -Accounting Expansion
Award: $375,000
Shasta College will expand the capacity of our existing Accounting Clerk registered apprenticeship program. This will further support our efforts and register an additional 25 apprentices over the grant term in our state-registered Accounting Clerk apprenticeship program, which aligns with the Shasta College Accounting Clerk certificate. This grant will allow us to conduct strategic outreach and recruitment to register our diverse student populations as apprentices, services, including but not limited to, job readiness coaching and career guidance, case management, success coaching, and financial aid will be a focus, which should remove barriers to entry and completion for participants.
MESA Program
Award: $1,552,039
MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) focuses on academic and student support services for educationally and economically disadvantaged students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields who seek to transfer to a four-year institution. Students are engaged in a cohort model supported by faculty mentors, tutoring, academic counseling, and student success workshops to support persistence, retention, completion, and transfer.
Perkins 22-23
Award: $430,386
The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV) is a principal source of federal funding to states and discretionary grantees for the improvement of secondary and postsecondary career and technical education programs across the nation. The purpose of the Act is to develop more fully the academic, career, and technical skills of secondary and postsecondary students who elect to enroll in career and technical education programs.

First 5 Shasta -Week of the Young Child (WOYC)
Award: $580
The Shasta College Early Childhood Education Center Lab will be celebrating the culmination of the 2023 Week of the Young Child Friday, April 8th from 12pm to 2pm. Alumni and community members are invited to join us for pizza, friendship crafts, and outdoor story times (with special books My Friends and Bears New Friend). This grant will cover all costs for lunch and enrichment crafts and First 5 will donate the books to be given away to families. It is anticipated that this project will serve 64 parents and 32 children ages 3-5 years.
First 5 Shasta -Good Neighbor Grants
Award: $1,128
Early Childhood Education (ECE) is proposing to host two ECE Director's Roundtable Discussions for Shasta College and community directors, supervisors, family childcare providers, and head teachers to create a learning community of shared best practices, analyze trends and changes in the field, and provide a culture of support for early childhood education.
Regional Equity and Recovery Partnerships (RERP) Grants
Award: $149,230
This statewide funding between local workforce development board Regional Planning Units and community colleges will connect workers most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to high-quality jobs in target and growth industry sectors. These investments will support people enrolled in community college and employment-training-related programs with the goals of: a)Improving job quality and job access for people from underserved and underrepresented populations; b)meeting the skill needs of employers; and c) meeting the economic, social and environmental needs of the community.
Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Innovative Best Practices Grants
Award: $200,000
Funds will be utilized to support pre and post hiring professional development for faculty and staff to support diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA) by expanding our Equal Employment Opportunity activities, leadership development, on-boarding, and assessing our campus climate through staff surveys. The goal of this program is to improve diversity and equity in our employee relations from recruitment, interviewing, hiring, retention, and professional development to support growth and leadership through the utilization of the Multiple-Methods model identified as a best practice by the Chancellor's Office Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Advisory Committee.

Culturally Responsive Pedagogy & Practices Innovative Best Practices Grant
Award: $300,000
Funds will be used to enhance and expand our Equity in Teaching and Learning Institute for faculty and staff. This institute is based on a model at Santa Ana College. Our first cohort is a train-the-trainer model conducted by 15 Shasta College faculty working in collaboration with Santa Ana College faculty. Funds from the grant will let us run additional cohorts to train larger numbers of faculty at Shasta College. Activities will include professional development to assist faculty in integrating evidence-based pedagogical strategies focusing on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in their course content and delivery methods to improve student outcomes.
Amazon Web Services Cloud Skills Pilot Program
Award: $150,000
This grant will support the creation of a course to introduce and teach students about cloud computing to address the skills gap, using partnerships between Amazon Web Services and the California Community College Chancellors Office (CCCCO).
