In celebration of National Manufacturing Day on October 4, 2019, the Shasta Grow Manufacturing Initiative in partnership with Shasta College EWD, are hosting manufacturing tours for students from a Anderson High School and Shasta College Advanced Manufacturing and Welding programs. Students will tour 4-5 local Redding manufacturing companies including Knauf Insulation, SAF-West (Southern Aluminum Finishing Co.), Maas Energy Works, and Sof-Tek. The students will get a firsthand look at each companies’ manufacturing process, as well as have the opportunity to engage directly with company management and employees. The students will also receive information on in-demand job opportunities and needed critical skills.

The Economic and Workforce Development (EWD) Division at Shasta College is an integral part of the California Community Colleges and the Powered by California Community Colleges framework, investing funding and resources in industry sectors that are key to California's economic growth. EWD's industry-specific workforce services are coordinated through a system of sector specialists that align community college and other workforce development resources with the needs of industry sectors and occupational clusters through a regional focus, with the goal of investing in the skills of California's workforce.

The Grow Manufacturing Initiative (Shasta GMI) is a Shasta County manufacturing alliance that works collaboratively on issues related to workforce development, continuous improvement, and educational engagement.
