Shasta College continues to plan its Summer and Fall semester instruction and student service programs. The Summer semester will be conducted primarily through online instruction. The College is planning procedures to resume instructional and student service activities while complying with physical distancing mandates and travel restrictions, in compliance with federal and state guidance. As various public health projections predict a potential resurgence of the Coronavirus during the Fall, Shasta College is preparing for strict public safety and health protocols for all activities. The College is exploring multiple scenarios for resuming services while maintaining appropriate physical distancing for students, faculty, and staff. Given the information currently available from national, state, and local authorities, Shasta College administrators have determined normal operations of the two on-campus dorms cannot be resumed in the Fall semester. The facilities will be repurposed, temporarily, for staff workspace. Shasta College recognizes the challenge this may present for some students. A dedicated team of counselors and advisors will work with students on alternative off-site housing options.

Dr. Kevin O’Rorke, Assistant Superintendent/Vice President Student Life, commented on this new direction for the dorms, “This is an ever-evolving situation, and Shasta College will continue to explore new and innovative approaches to help students complete their studies in a safe, yet academically challenging environment. By temporarily suspending on-campus student housing for the Fall semester, the College will take one more step to help reduce potential exposure through  physical distancing efforts.”

Shasta College is one of only a few California community colleges that offer on-campus student housing. The college operates two dorm buildings and a large commons building for the dorms with kitchen, TV lounge, mailroom, computer work stations, and laundry facilities. Dorm rooms are double occupancy with common shower areas for each floor. Each of the two wings can house 63 students, a total capacity of 126.
