Shasta College Cancelling Events In Proactive Step To Reduce Potential For Exposure To Coronavirus (COVID-19)

REDDING, CA – Out of an abundance of caution, given the guidelines from the California Department of Public Health and the California Chancellor’s Office (https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/CDPH%20Document%20Library/Gathering_Guidance_03.11.20.pdf) on large group gatherings, the decision has been made to cancel large Shasta College events through April 10. In addition, all sporting events to be held on campus will continue but without audience attendance. Please refer to the Shasta College website at www.shastacollege.edu/COVID19 for updates surrounding our response and efforts to proactively reduce the risk to our students and employees. This site will also list canceled events in detail. All in-person classes will continue as normal.

As the situation with COVID-19 continues to develop around our nation and within our state, the risk to Shasta College remains low and the method in which we provide instruction has not been disrupted at this time. To date, there are no known instances of COVID-19 impacting our students, staff, or faculty. All in-person classes will continue as normal. In an effort to proactively reduce potential exposure opportunities. Shasta College faculty have been encouraged to prepare to provide instruction remotely via Canvas if they are not already doing so. It is the intent of the college to be as prepared as possible in case we need to have all lectures, and as many labs and activities as appropriate, transitioned to remote instruction via Canvas for the remainder of the semester.

The health and safety of the Shasta College community remains our first priority. Our administration and Campus Safety professionals continue to work with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, Shasta County Department of Public Health, and other public health agencies to take all appropriate precautions. There are plans developed and being worked on should future changes to instruction be required.

Shasta College has instituted multiple proactive measures to help reduce the chance of COVID-19 disrupting the campus climate. College staff have dispensed over 300 sanitizing stations, sanitizing wipes are available for keyboard and work surfaces in all buildings, and the college continues to message and encourage everyone on campus to practice safe personal hygiene. Staff, employees, and students are encouraged to stay home if they feel sick and to contact their primary health care providers prior to going in.

Shasta College remains committed to the success of our students and the safety of everyone in the communities we serve. We look forward to moving past this current challenge.
