Shasta College Spring Semester To Continue Online

REDDING, CA – Shasta College will offer Spring 2021 courses primarily online, with registration commencing November 14. Fall 2020 courses currently being taught in-person with safety protocols and social distancing such as Allied Health, Fire Academy, nursing, some Career Education (CE) courses, and supporting labs will continue in-person for Spring 2021. Courses that are currently online for Fall Semester 2020 will stay online in Spring 2021. Campuses will continue to restrict access during the Spring semester with check-in and self-assessment at the entrance for the main, Health Science and Tehama campuses and appointments required for certain student services.

Joe Wyse, Shasta College Superintendent/President, said, “In our evaluations for how to approach spring course offerings we carefully considered the safety of our students and staff and the potential disruption a rise in cases for COVID-19 would cause during an active semester.” Wyse continued, “We firmly believe that this plan will provide our students with the safest, least disruptive avenue to earning their degrees/certificates during this pandemic.”

Shasta College continues to restrict in-person interactions and institute strict preventive protocols to help reduce the potential risk of exposure on campuses. As a result, certain student services such as the bookstore and the health and wellness center have gradually opened to students. As this situation evolves, and if conditions in December/January permit, there may be a possibility some online courses could return to in-person instruction.

Moving predominantly online is consistent with the approach planned or under consideration by many California community colleges. This situation is still very fluid; some of these plans may change if state or federal guidance changes.

Shasta College employees have the option to continue to work remotely — the plan outlined above is specifically about course offerings. Staff and faculty have returned on-campus when needed and appropriate with proper safety protocols in place.
