REDDING, CA – The Community College Journal, a publication of the American Association of Community Colleges, has featured the Shasta College Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) in the article “Creating an Entrepreneurial Mindset” written by Douglas J. Guth (www.ccjournal-digital.com).  In its tenth year, YEP hosts students ages 14 to 18 from 25 area high schools to showcase their entrepreneurial concepts for a chance to win $3,000 in start-up funding.

“Shasta College’s YEP has had a tremendous impact on the entrepreneurial mindset of the students in our community, and has been introduced statewide as a program model,” said Superintendent/President Dr. Joe Wyse.  “The younger generation doesn’t want to work for other people.  If we can help them refine their skills and gain a competitive advantage, that’s a great goal for us and for our community.”

The next YEP Business Plan Competition will be held on March 16, 2017 at the Cascade Theatre in Redding.  The competition is comprised of phases, with judges advancing finalists to the final competition in March.  Registration for Phase One opens January 2017!  For further information, visit www.yepsc.org or contact Ms. Eva Jimenez, Dean of Economic and Workforce Development, at 530-242-7565 or Chelsea Hendershot, Senior Project Director at 530-242-7638.
