Job Description

Do you enjoy working with youth? The City of Redding Recreation Division is looking for a fun and energetic staff to work in our summer camp programs. As a Recreation Leader or Instructor, you will help plan fun weekly activities for children ages 5 to 12. You will be working under general supervision and responsible for overseeing summer camp activities and monitoring participants. Why work for Redding Recreation? If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted directly by the Department. Positions may include day, evening, holiday and weekend shift work and require work in the sunlight and the elements.

Minimum age for any position is 16. All new employees will be subject to drug/alcohol screening, and if 18 or older, will be fingerprinted prior to beginning work.

The following positions will be filled from this job posting:

YOUTH ATHLETICS

Sports Camp Instructor (Recreation Crew Leader): $16.54-18.23 /hour

Sports Camp Assistant (Recreation Leader): $15.00/hour

SUMMER DAY CAMP STAFF

Camp Instructor (Recreation Instructor II): $17.12-$18.87/hour

Camp Assistant (Recreation Leader): $15.00/hour

Requirements

Examples of Duties:

Plan, organize, and conduct recreational programs.

Supervise recreation program participants while guiding participants in leisure and social activities.

Exercise proper program safety practices and procedures while carrying out recreational programs.

Open and secure various facilities as assigned.

Attend meetings and training sessions as required.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.

Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures

Develops sports and recreational programs that are well-suited for the community

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Is familiar with a variety of different sports and activities

Has a wide range of likes and interests

Enjoys helping children develop physically, mentally and socially

Is able to foster a sense of pride and teamwork in others

Possesses good supervisory skills and is able to lead others easily

Articulates well, and is able to provide instruction on basic activities even to beginners.
