Progress Probation – Semester 1

Progress Probation occurs when the percentage of all units in which a student has enrolled and for which entries of “W”, “I” and “NP” are recorded reaches or exceeds fifty percent (50%) after a student has attempted at least 12 units.

Progress Probation – Semester 2

Should a student on progress probation enroll in the next semester, one of two outcomes may occur at the end of the second semester:

Possible Outcome 1: Cumulative recorded entries of “W”, “I” and “NP” are below fifty percent.
Result: The student has regained good standing.

Possible Outcome 2: Cumulative recorded entries of “W”, “I” and “NP” are fifty percent or higher.
Result: The student’s probation level 2 is continued for a second semester. A student on second progress probation will lose priority registration. Foster youth are exempt from this policy. Beginning fall 2016, students will also lose BOG fee waiver eligibility.

Progress Probation – Semester 3

Should a student on progress probation enroll in a third consecutive semester, one of three outcomes may occur at the end of the third semester:

Possible Outcome 1: Cumulative recorded entries of “W”, “I” and “NP” are below fifty percent.
Result: The student has regained good standing.

Possible Outcome 2: Semester recorded entries of “W”, “I” and “NP” are below fifty percent, but cumulative recorded entries of “W”, “I” and “NP” reach or exceed fifty percent.
Result: The student remains on progress probation for an additional semester, since the student is making progress. This is known as an “extension of probation”.

Possible Outcome 3: Semester and cumulative recorded entries of “W”, “I” and “NP” reach or exceeds fifty percent for a third consecutive semester.
Result: Being unable to meet the college’s minimum progress standards is a serious matter. In this case, the student will be dismissed from the college and required to sit out for the subsequent semester (fall or spring). If the student wishes to return, the student will be required to complete the reinstatement process.

Notification of Probation Status

A student on any level of academic and/or progress probation will be notified via email after final grades are posted. The email will inform the student of probationary status and the necessary steps to take.
