Pace Calculation Grid
Pace is calculated by dividing the total number of completed units by the total number of attempted units and is always rounded up to the nearest tenths. (For example: 6 units divided by 9 units = .6667 so pace is rounded to 67%)
The chart below shows the number of units you would need to complete out of the number of units attempted to maintain a 67% pace. A 67% pace is the minimum requirement for SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress).
Pace is calculated on cumulative units, not semester by semester.

Example 1:
Jack enrolls in 12 units during his first semester at Shasta College. He drops 6 units after census and receives “W” grades. His Cumulative and semester pace would be 50% based on his total attempted vs. completed units. He would then be placed on “Warning” for not completing at least 67% of all cumulative attempted units.
Jack’s pace calculation: 6 units completed ÷ 12 units attempted = 0.5 or 50% pace.
Example 2:
Sally has attended three semesters at Shasta College and has completed 30 units of her attempted 36 units, which means her current pace is 83%. She enters her fourth semester and enrolls in 15 units. Sally receives a job offer and decides to drop all her classes and receives “W” grades. Her total attempted units at the end of her fourth semester would be 51 units and her total completed units would be 30 units. This brings her cumulative pace down to 59%.
Sally’s pace calculation: 30 units completed ÷ 51 units attempted = 0.588 or 59% pace.
This would put Sally into a “Warning” status because she is below the minimum pace requirement. She would need to complete at least 12 units the following semester to meet the minimum 67% pace and return to a “Satisfactory” SAP standing.
30 units + 12 units = 42 units completed
51 units + 12 units = 63 units attempted
42 units completed ÷ 63 units attempted = 0.6667 or 67% pace.
