How to Become a CBE Student
We strongly encourage you to attend an Information Session to learn more about CBE.
Step 1: If you are a current Shasta College student, skip to step 2.
Step 2: If you have never been a Shasta College student, or have not been enrolled for two semesters, please complete the standard Shasta College application steps:
- Apply to the college for 2025-26 (approx. 15 minutes)
- Request official transcripts from any other college attended to be sent to Shasta College, Admissions/Records, PO Box 496006, Redding, CA 96049-6006 or admissions@shastacollege.edu
- Attend the online campus orientation (approx. 45 minutes)
Step 3: Complete the online, self-paced CBE Orientation (approx. one hour) – required. As CBE is very different from traditional coursework, we want to ensure you fully understand CBE before registering. The link for the orientation will be available in late June 2025.
Step 4: Complete the CBE Intake Form (approx. 15 minutes; the link for the CBE Intake Form will be at the end of the CBE Orientation)
- After you submit the online form, our office will call you to set up an appointment with the CBE Counselor.
- This appointment can be in-person (in Redding or Red Bluff), via Zoom, or over the phone.
Step 5: Meet with the CBE Counselor to discuss any previously taken coursework at Shasta or other colleges, potential Credit for Prior Learning, and create an individualized educational plan.
Step 6: Early Childhood Education CBE students will also be required to complete a Work-Ready Badge in Canvas. If already employed in an ECE setting, students may be able to have their employer write a letter affirming completion of specific items. (Details coming in late June 2025).
Step 7: We strongly recommend you submit a financial aid application to access as much financial aid and scholarship funds as possible (approx. 45 minutes to an hour):
- 2025-26 FAFSA (for US Citizens and eligible non-citizens), OR
- 2025-26 CA DREAM Act Application (for non-citizens who meet CA residency)
- 2025-26 California College Promise Grant (CCPG) – this application is one way to determine your eligibility for the waiver of the $46/unit fee (the Financial Aid Office can use the information from the FAFSA or the CADAA to determine CCPG eligibility as well).
Feel free to submit a CBE Interest Form (2 minutes!) so we have your contact information and can reach you with updates!
