What to do when you’re on a waitlist
What is a waitlist?
A waitlist starts when a class is full to prioritize enrollment when seats become available. This allows students to wait in line for courses that are full. Student can add into courses until Census Day, after Census a late add form is required to apply to enroll into a course.
- Log in to the MyShasta student menu and click ‘search and register for courses’.
- Once you have selected your preferred courses you will be redirected to a new screen with a drop down menu with “waitlist” as an option. Press submit to be added to the waitlist.
Automated enrollment begins with the first student on the waitlist. If a spot becomes available in the course, the first student on the waitlist will be automatically enrolled into the course. A confirmation email will be sent and payment is due by midnight of the day you are enrolled. The auto-enroll feature is no longer active after the first day of class - you will remain on the waitlist unless you add the class from the "Manage My Waitlist" area of MyShasta, or from the options shown below.
*You will not be auto enrolled if you have not completed prerequisites, owe a debt to the college, course schedule conflicts, have reached maximum allowable units.
Approval from Instructor
If your class is online, you can e-mail your instructor asking for permission to add the course. If the instructor approves they will issue you a 5 digit waitlist code.
If your class in on campus, you can ask your instructor in person for a waitlist code, or they can sign a registration slip for you to submit to the admissions and records office.
If you are waitlisted for a course that you don’t intend to enroll, it is the students responsibility to drop from the course. If you do not drop it, you may be enrolled and be responsible for enrollment fees.
Log in to the MyShasta students menu and select “manage my waitlist.” Choose “remove” from the menu next to the course you wish to drop.
Check for alternative section numbers
Some courses may have multiple offerings with different locations, times, instructors. Browse through different courses with the same title to view all available options.
Have a backup course
In the event you are unable to enroll into your actively waitlist course, you can use your educational plan to help find a different course to take in its place. (You will still need to complete both courses, this just swaps the order you are taking them.)
Enrollment status can change frequently as other students rearrange their schedules. If you choose to wait a couple of weeks after the semester has started, it is important you attend the course you are waitlisted for so you aren’t behind if you are accepted to the waitlist.
