Jim Harrell
Dean of Economic and Workforce Development
Jim joined the Shasta College family in February 2023 as the interim Dean of the Economic and Workforce Development Division. He transitioned to the full time Dean July 1 of 2024.
Jim brought thirty-seven years of experience from the K-12 education system. He has served as a middle school and high school teacher and three sport coach. He then transitioned into the field of administration where he served as Dean of Students and Athletic Director at the high school level. His next transition saw him move to become a middle school principal for seven years before moving to the district office to become the Director of Student Support for the district of over 11,000 students. This completed 24 years working for the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District in Pocatello Idaho.
In July 2010 Jim accepted a position as the Principal of Central Valley high School in Shasta Lake City. July of 2012 Jim became the Superintendent for the Gateway Unified School District and served in that role until December of 2022.
Jim is passionate about leadership and strategic planning. He strongly believes both are intracule to bring about growth within the organization but more importantly the success of those we serve.
Jim graduated high school in Arvada Colorado. He went to Snow College in Ephriam, Utah before transferring to Idaho State University on a full scholarship to play football. Upon graduation Jim began his teaching career in the Pocatello/ Chubbuck school District. In 1997 Jim completed his Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration.
Jim has been married to his remarkable wife Becci for 31 years. Together, they have raised four children. Three of which attended Shasta College before transferring to four-year schools. The fourth went straight to UCLA after high school.
