“Lord, what fools these mortals be!”

This Fall, at Shasta College, we hope you’ll join us for a very special production of William Shakespeare’s immortal comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Hermia is betrothed to the wealthy Demetrius, but is in love with Lysander. When she, Lysander, and her best friend Helena (who herself is secretly in love with Demetrius) flee into the forest near Athens, they accidentally stumble across the Fairy Court, which is in the midst of its own romantic squabbles. What follows is a touching and hilarious romp, involving fairy magic, love potions, and one amateur acting troupe’s desperate quest to finish their play — even as they seem to be turning into animals.

Our lovingly-edited version of the play should run a brisk 85 minutes with intermission — and we’re calling any and all interested students and community members to come audition!

Interested participants should prepare a one-minute classical monolog — it can be Shakespeare, or something else from that period, and it should lean more comedic than grim. Auditions will be held at 6:00pm on August 25th and 26th, with performances running from October 10th through 19th.

Our beautiful auditorium is one of the largest in the north state; furthermore, this production (directed by Dr. Greg Thorson) will feature set designs by our phenomenal set designer and painter David Fraser, and lighting designs by the inimitable Tim Dye. We know it will be a feast for the eyes and ears, and fun for the whole family — won’t you come and join us?
