To the Shasta College Community:

First, I want to extend a huge thank you to all involved in reaching out to new and current students over the spring and summer. Our reports show that we continue to end up higher in enrollment over last fall by about 180 full-time equivalent students (about 7.5%). If we can hold that through the spring, we will end the year around 12% below pre-pandemic levels. If we can continue to build enrollment the following two years by 5% (or more) we will be nearly back to pre-pandemic levels. Thanks to all involved in making our campus a welcoming place and working diligently to serve students well.

Next, I was able to visit the outdoor classroom for our Forest Health related programs (a picture of this visit is below my signature line). We are being noticed for what is happening in this area, as earlier this month the Governor's Wildfire & Forest Resilience Task Force met in our theatre (over 300 people from around the state and the region) and next month there is Forestry Workforce Summit gathering at the Gaia hotel in Anderson sponsored by the Foundation for California Community Colleges.

I neglected to get this one out earlier in the semester, but over the summer our own Buffy Tanner was featured in two Complete College America podcasts. To listen, click on the following link and scroll down to the July 25 and August 8 podcasts.  Well done, Buffy!

Finally, be on the lookout for an email that will soon come from Marrianne Williams about two forums that will be scheduled for November 8th, 2023 (9:30am and 2:00pm – more details to follow in Marrianne’s email) at which you will be able to meet the search consultants and learn about the process for selecting the next Superintendent/President of Shasta College.

I hope you are enjoying the shorter days and cooler weather – and the beautiful sunsets of late.  Have a wonderful rest of the week.
