Students walking on Shasta College campus.

REDDING, CA – The Fall Semester began this week at Shasta College, and the college is, once again, seeing robust enrollments. In Fall 2025, Shasta College hit pre-pandemic enrollment levels. This number continues to grow with over 7,500 students starting classes this fall, a 3.2% increase over last fall’s numbers.

This semester, students are enjoying the newly reopened 800 building – a building that in pre-pandemic days housed 40% of overall enrollments. The building was remodeled using 50% Bond Measure H funds and a 50% match from the state. It features state-of-the-art classrooms and, for the first time, a student lounge that students can use between classes.

The 800 building is just the latest remodel. Last fall, the Shasta College Library and “TLC” (Tutoring and Learning Center) building reopened and has become a popular hub again. Other recent updates include new walkways throughout much of the campus, which improve access and guide students through updated landscaping with small gathering places to improve student engagement.

“If you haven’t been to campus in the last few years, you’ll probably be astonished to see how much it’s changed. Our students are loving it,” said Superintendent/President Dr. Frank Nigro. “It’s always a happy time of the year for us. We love seeing all the students and, of course, our faculty back on campus. Our mission is to meet our students where they are in life by providing flexible schedules, significant financial aid, and a welcoming, inclusive environment where students can succeed in pursuing their goals. We are a teaching-first college. Great teaching is the number one goal of our faculty, and they are supported by our incredible staff who help students reduce barriers and challenges to completing their educational goals. Together, we look forward to another great year of serving our students and community partners.”

At the spring commencement ceremonies, Shasta College received 1,869 degree applications, including 326 certificate applications. These totals included 371 transfer degree recipients, 514 honors graduates, and 16 Bachelor of Science recipients from the college’s Health Information Management bachelor's degree program. Over 450 students attended Commencement – a record high. At the recent staff Welcome Back Day, Dr. Nigro informed a packed theatre that the college was pursuing a second bachelor's degree program in Public Service Management.

“There’s never been a better time to come to college, reskill for a new career, or upskill to advance in the field you’re currently in,” said Dr. Nigro. “We continue to offer two years tuition-free for students who attend full-time, and eligible students who take 15 or more units can also get up to $4,000/semester through our Finish Line Scholars program. We’re working hard to reduce the barriers and help students achieve their goals quickly and with the skills and training that employers are looking for.”

Dr. Nigro reminds everyone that it is still possible to enroll. The college offers many late-start classes as well as many shorter-term 8-week classes and programs.
