Shasta College and CalWORKs have partnered to offer a subsidized employment program designed to help CalWORKs students gain meaningful work experience while earning additional income.  The CalWORKs Work Study Program connects students with part-time employment in their field of study, supporting their academic goals and preparing them for long-term career success.

Employer Benefits:

  • Minimal paperwork required

  • Opportunity to hire college students with specialized vocational training
  • Ability to support students on their path to economic empowerment

Student Benefits:

  • Paid work experience in their field of study
  • Increased employability through real-world, hands-on experience
  • Financial support while pursuing educational and career goals
  • Earnings do not count against CalWORKs cash aid

Eligibility:

Students must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Currently receiving the adult portion of TANF cash aid (child-only cases are not eligible)
  • Have an active Welfare-to-Work plan (students with exemptions are not eligible)
  • Be enrolled in at least six units that are part of a counselor-approved educational plan leading to the student’s academic goal
  • Off Campus Work Study position must be related to the student’s field of study
