Emissions Training
Shasta College provides comprehensive training for individuals seeking to become licensed Smog Check Inspectors. The program includes Level 1 Inspector Training (AUTO 21) and Level 2 Inspector Training (AUTO 176), both designed to meet California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) requirements.
The Engine Performance (AUTO 20) and Advanced Engine Performance (AUTO 21) courses deliver foundational instruction in engine operation, fuel delivery systems, ignition systems, and emission control theory and design. Students gain both classroom knowledge and hands-on lab experience that prepares them to understand modern vehicle emission systems and diagnostic procedures.
Successful completion of training at a BAR-certified school satisfies the first step of the Bureau of Automotive Repair’s requirements for individuals who are inexperienced or have minimal experience and are pursuing a Smog Check Inspector license.
To successfully complete the program, students must attend all required course hours, complete lab assignments, and pass a written examination.
