REDDING, CA –  Shasta College is pleased to announce a new Honors Program for area students. Shasta College students who are certified through the honors program will receive special consideration by transfer partners including UC Irvine, Amherst College, Pomona College, San Diego State University and 18 other colleges and universities. The benefits Honors Graduates enjoy may include guaranteed or priority acceptance, special scholarships, and a range of additional academic, cultural and social benefits. The above benefits go beyond Shasta College’s traditional agreements and provide increased opportunities not previously available to students seeking to transfer to a university.

Honors classes will be offered in subjects typically required in general education patterns for transfer to universities. These classes are smaller, are led in seminar format, require higher levels of critical thinking, employ more sophisticated writing skills, often use seminal texts and may engage students in fundamental research.

With the addition of the Honors Program, Shasta College becomes a guest member of the Honors Transfer Council of California (HTCC). Two years from the initiation of Shasta College’s Honors Program, the college will be eligible to apply for Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) inclusion at UCLA; TAP inclusion provides significant consideration for students who are interested in transferring to UCLA.
