On Friday, September 6th, at 2:30 pm, Redding Rotary and Redding East Rotarians will hand out 125 Dell Chromebooks to Shasta College students who are in the Shasta Technical Education Program-Unified Partnership (STEP-UP) program. The presentation will happen in room 802 on the Redding Main Campus. The Redding Rotary Club received a $15K grant and members of both clubs contributed an additional $10K to provide students in the STEP-UP program with the 11.6” 16GB Chromebooks purchased from local retailer Best Buy.
Robert Bowman said, “This gift will provide a valuable resource for STEP-UP students and remove another barrier to their success as they pursue their programs of study.” The Redding Rotary President Jeff Avery stated that he is, “proud of his fellow Rotarians that made this happen!”
STEP-UP is partnership between Shasta College, the Shasta and Tehama County Probation and Sheriff Departments, the Good News Rescue Mission, the California Heritage YouthBuild Academy, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Parole Division, and the Butte County Office of Education. This will be the sixth year that STEP-UP has been providing educational and vocational programs for formerly incarcerated students as well as individuals currently under the supervision of the sheriff or probation department.
