Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide (CNA)
GENERAL INFORMATION

The course is designed to prepare students to perform the basic nursing skills required in acute hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home health care agencies. Special emphasis is placed on health care provisions and modifica­tions in community health care settings.

This is a one-semester course consisting of eight (8) hours lecture and sixteen (16) hours laboratory/clinical per week and is worth thir­teen (13) units of college credit. The course is approved by the State Department of Health Services.

Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, a Shasta College certificate of completion is issued. Students are then eligible to apply for the state competency examination for certifi­cation.

Students, at their expense, are required to have a physical examination and immunizations prior to entering the NA/Home Health Aide program.  Students must meet established physical criteria to participate in the clinical area and have a current Basic Life Support--Health Care Provider card (two-person rescue and infant resuscitation).  Students must also comply with drug testing and background clearance requirements for clinical placement.
