The course is designed to prepare students to perform the basic nursing skills required in acute hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home health care agencies. Special emphasis is placed on health care provisions and modifications in community health care settings.
This is a one-semester course consisting of eight (8) hours lecture and sixteen (16) hours laboratory/clinical per week and is worth thirteen (13) units of college credit. The course is approved by the State Department of Health Services.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, a Shasta College certificate of completion is issued. Students are then eligible to apply for the state competency examination for certification.

Approximate cost of Program
Students, at their expense, are required to have a physical examination and immunizations prior to entering the NA/Home Health Aide program. Students must meet established physical criteria to participate in the clinical area and have a current Basic Life Support--Health Care Provider card (two-person rescue and infant resuscitation). Students must also comply with drug testing and background clearance requirements for clinical placement.
