How to Choose a University

When exploring bachelor’s degree completion options, prioritize institutions that meet the following criteria:

Institutional Criteria

  1. Regionally accredited
  2. Non profit
  3. Affordable (total tuition approximately $25,000 or less)
  4. Transfer friendly (accepts 60+ semester units and/or offers flexible start dates)
  5. Adult learner focused (designed for working students)

Personal Fit & Planning

  1. Application deadlines
  2. Modality (online, hybrid, or in person)
  3. Academic structure (semester, quarter, monthly, or 6 month terms)
  4. Financial aid (Pell Grant, Cal Grant, scholarships)
  5. Start dates (fall, spring, or rolling enrollment)
  6. Additional fees (technology, proctoring, lab, etc.)
  7. Prerequisites (campus, major, or graduation requirements)
  8. Transfer unit policies
