PTA Enrollment Through Multicriteria Selection Process

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program enrolls students in accordance with current California Community College Chancellor’s Office guidelines. All applicants who desire to be enrolled in the PTA program must apply to the program through the same Multicriteria Selection process.

Multicriteria Selection Process Criteria Summary

Applicants apply for the program by submitting applications during the established Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) application filing period (each spring) to the Health Sciences Division Office. Applicants found eligible are ranked following the Multicriteria Selection Process Guidelines. Twenty-four (24) applicants will be chosen from the Multicriteria Selection Process for enrollment.

Up to twelve (12) alternates for the enrollment will be chosen from the application process during this time.

Criteria points(max 20 pts.) Required Documentation
All four prerequisites  20 Completion of four prerequisite courses with C’s or higher at time of application. 
Three prerequisites  15 Completion of three prerequisite courses with C’s or higher at time of application.
Two prerequisites  10 Completion of all two prerequisite courses with C’s or higher at time of application. 
Prerequisite GPA if ALL FOUR prerequisites completed points(max 10 pts.) All four prerequisites must be completed to earn points for GPA in prerequisite courses 
Prerequisite GPA at 3.0 or higher  10 Transcripts for verification of grades in all prerequisite courses.
Prerequisite GPA at 2.5 – 3.0   5 Transcripts for verification of grades in all prerequisite courses.
Prerequisite GPA at 2.0 – 2.5  0 Transcripts for verification of grades in all prerequisite courses 
Criteria points(max 25 pts.) Required Documentation
Volunteer or paid aide/tech work in an out-patient physical therapy setting for a min. of 100 hours within the past two years.   10 Letter from current/former employer verifying employment or current/former organization verifying work hours. The letter must be on organization letterhead with an original signature and include the applicant’s name (must match name on PTA program application), start date and end date (if applicable), employment status (full-time/part-time), number of hours worked per week (or total hours worked from/to date), job title, department if applicable, and examples of duties that include patient interaction. 
Volunteer or paid aide/tech work in an in-patient physical therapy setting for a min. of 100 hours within the past two years.  10 Letter from current/former employer verifying employment or current/former organization verifying work hours. The letter must be on organization letterhead with an original signature and include the applicant’s name (must match name on PTA program application), start date and end date (if applicable), employment status (full-time/part-time), number of hours worked per week (or total hours worked from/to date), job title, department if applicable, and examples of duties that include patient interaction. 
Volunteer or paid work in a related field with direct patient/client contact for a min. of 200 hours within two years of application.  5 Letter from current/former employer verifying employment or current/former organization verifying volunteer service. The letter must be on organization letterhead with an original signature and include the applicant’s name (must match name on PTA program application), start date and end date (if applicable), employment status (full-time/part-time), number of hours worked per week (or total hours worked from/to date), job title, department if applicable, and examples of duties that include patient interaction.
Criteria points(max 15 pts.) Required Documentation
Prior Degree: Points awarded for highest degree only 
Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree 		 10 Transcripts with proof of degree from an accredited institution.
Prior Degree: Points awarded for highest degree only: Associate degree  5 Transcripts with proof of degree from an accredited institution.
Linguistic Diversity  5 Language other than English as verified by a college level course or AP exam, certification by educator or clergy, Seal of Biliteracy on high school transcript, or submission of evaluated transcript for foreign college or high school.

Invitation to Enroll

As Multicriteria Selection Process application filing packets are submitted, each applicant will receive a receipt. The twenty-four (24) top-ranking applicants will receive verification via email that their score has qualified them for invitation into the program for the following fall enrollment period by the Health Sciences Division Office.
