To the Shasta College Community:

I trust you are enjoying the start of November – remember to set your clocks back this weekend!

Success Stories

Thank you to Heather Wylie for sharing the following with me:

On behalf of the Shasta College Journalism Fellows program (aka Chris Rodriguez and Jim Dyer) I wanted to share/show off the work of one of our Fellows - Yadira Contreras. She did an incredible piece on her own experience as a DACA recipient while living in the small community of Fall River Mills. It's a powerful look into the program through her personal story. Based on her stellar work, a local news outlet "Shasta Scout" published it recently.

Article #2: Yadira's story on DACA

Additionally it was fun to see some of our work in North State Together and the ACE/BOLD area featured nationally in an article in Inside Higher Education.  See the following link for details https://www.insidehighered.com/blogs/tackling-transfer/making-transfer-work-rural-students-and-communities

If you did not know, athletics recently installed a camera in the gym to broadcast athletic events and the next one will soon be (if it is not already) installed by the football field. Thanks to technology staff for helping make this happen!

And some Business…

You likely are hearing news stories of President Biden’s vaccine or be tested mandate for employers with more than 100 employees.  Our review of details released to date show that we are ahead of this announcement in our processes that we began in August, thanks to the great work of our technology and campus safety folks. Remember, the data dashboard is updated weekly.  What we are doing appears to be working, as you can see our positivity rates and case numbers are low (see https://www.shastacollege.edu/covid-19/data-dashboard/).

Note that registration for spring opens next week. Here is a reminder from Student Services:  Registration for Spring 2022 begins next Tuesday, Nov. 9. We encourage students to take advantage of priority registration. Priority is provided by regulation for certain student groups to support retention and completion.  Students can view their registration date in MyShasta. For general and quick support regarding registration, financial aid and other enrollment related questions, please call at (530) 242-7650 or email at admissions@shastacollege.edu or financialaid@shastacollege.edu.  The Student Success Center is also available.  Students may access support through a Zoom appointment. In-person services will be available soon.

OK – that is all for now – have a great rest of the week.
