Tops Market in Weaverville teamed with the Shasta College Foundation, Shasta College Economic Workforce Development, and, Trinity High School to develop a student intern program that launched in the Spring 2017 term. Students had to successfully pass an interview process led by Shasta College to be selected to participate in the first phase of the project. To be selected for the intern program the students who passed the interview process worked with several Tops market managers and employees, along with Renie Ryan, Tops Administrative Manager, during a Saturday customer service workshop. All of the students that successfully completed the workshop were then eligible to participate in the internship program. Students completed 60+ hours in the grocery store during the semester and received college credit. Of those students who participated, 7 completed the internship and two were hired for summer employment at Tops.

Tops Market, Shasta College Economic Workforce Development, and Trinity High School are planning on continuing the partnership with more internships available next school year. The college is looking for more businesses that are interested in participating and opening their doors to high school interns. Special recognition goes to the Shasta College Foundation for their support in launching this partnership and the opportunity it gave to the students of Trinity High School.
