The set for “The Laramie Project” is an intentionally bare-bones collection of platforms. Cannon Knapp, who is co-directing the Riverfront Playhouse production with Samantha Fork, wants the audience to focus what the actors are saying. And the cast has plenty to say in this hard-hitting drama based on the reaction to the 1998 hate-crime killing of Matthew Shepard, a gay student at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming.

Today, the Williams Institute, as part of the LGBTI Global Development Partnership has released three new research reports detailing the average levels of acceptance for LGBT people around the world. The findings reveal that LGBT rights have increased globally since 1980, though acceptance has become more polarized; increasing in the most accepting countries and decreasing in the least.

Simply put, 2017 has been a dreadful period for the LGBTQ community. From the Trump Administration’s reversal of federal guidance that protects LGBTQ students, to its planned purge of transgender service members, to continued attempts in state legislatures across the country to pass laws discriminating against us, it is clear that our community is under attack.
